A Mala is a string of beads used to count Sanskrit prayers (mantras) in sets of 108 repetitions. Mantra is a powerful tool for living life.

From Houston, Texas, September 2015…I have been designing and making mala beads on and off for probably the last 8-10 years. Working with wood beads and crystals is particularly to my liking because they are of Mother Earth and rooted with her strength; and they are exquisite in her

beauty. Through close friendships, reading and research, I became acquainted with — Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati, the Divine Feminine Trinity — and had one of those fall off the book store shelf experiences with Thomas Ashley Farrand’s book Healing Mantras. An expert in Sanskrit mantras, I found a magnetic attraction to him and his teachings. Simply described on his book cover… Using Sound Affirmations for Personal Power, Creativity, and Healing… this resonated with me immediately. More than anything, what I continue to learn expanded my experience of growing up with Gregorian Chant, which I love… and led me to the art and practice of meditation… and these beads which I tag under the name … Earth & Man.

Mala Beads

miniature 108 bead mala and carrying case

I have more jewelry than anyone would ever require in several lifetimes. My Grandmother’s, my Mother’s and my personal collection of gifts, purchases and selected pieces of antiquity found in shops and flea markets. Years of hoarding one-of-a-kind treasures, broken and found, hidden away, I decided it was time to release some of them and I started by incorporating them into mala bead designs… using an earring, coins, shards from broken Chinese pottery, pyrite/druzy pieces… because there are no limits to what can be created.

These unique malas are handmade by me and strung with Reiki energy. Created with 108 beads, (full mala), half malas and miniatures, they can be used for traditional meditation, to count your blessings, a personal affirmation and worn to adorn the body. Some of these extraordinary pieces are now available at Lucia’s Garden… see Joel; or call me for an appointment.

Bring a treasured piece and let me create a meaningful mala for you, it would be an honor.
